In January of 2025, I had the enormous pleasure of photographing a friend’s father’s childhood home in Oak Park, Illinois, designed by EE Roberts and built in 1905. There were a few recipients of the photos that had either currently or previously lived in the house, all of which received a personal letter. The following is are excerpts from one of those letters:

“Upon first glance, you might be asking yourself, ‘what is up with all of the close ups? but I assure you that this is intentional. The realtor grade photos are available online, you can find wide angle shots of all of the rooms pretty easily. You’ve shown me brochures and print outs of these photos. Somebody before me took the time to document the home, and quite nicely in fact, but the photos you hold now are meant for somebody that has already spent time within these walls, somebody that calls this place a home.“

“These photos are meant to serve as bits of information that you can piece together like a puzzle. The lines and textures that I have captured are the vessel for your experiences. You have spent countless hours creating memories within them. Although you can no longer physically touch them as easily as before, I hope that in looking at these photos, your fingers can run along the edges and feel the wood grain as they once did.”

These photos were originally meant for individuals that call this building their home, it is a very personal project that I have decided to share publically.
